05.07.03: movies and goings-onpestilence
See? Told you I'd be back. Still no drawings to show, though. Maintenence on the computers at PSYCHOSiS Labs have kept me busy the last few days, but plans are moving forward to get Detentionauts off the ground, or out of my head, or what-have-you.

I've finally opened up the other sections on the site. Well, opened them up isn't really the right phrase. More like "put pages that have anything from nothing to an obnoxious amount of self-indulgent text where I'm hoping to eventually put up some content." Let's just say that I am "wasting your time and mine."

I don't know how to handle the newly-added feature at the top of the column to the right. Specifically, I don't know what to do about movies I've seen recently. It doesn't seem like they should go there. So they won't. Thanks for helping me figure that out. Now that that situation's behind us, I'll say that my mind is currently very much enchanted by X2 and Battle Royale. They're both so good that they might as well be filled with rich, creamy nougat. It's saying a lot, too, that these two works have me preoccupied, with the new matrix movie a scant week away.

This summer's movies are so comics/science fiction laden that I can't help but relate to this poor kid in my sweaty fanboy stupor. A special thanks to Miss Erin for pointing that video out to me.

05.02.03: back in actionpestilence
Well, I do intend to update and even post a thing or two more often than monthly, but things always seem to get in the way. Still, as the aforementioned Japanese class comes to a close next week, I'll need new ways to free myself from my feeling of being at the office, which is my home, and therefore not really my home when it should be my home. Or something.

Another thing that's been keeping me away from posting goodness are some various and sundry computer situations. First, I modded my first PC case. I've told people in the past that if I end up modding my case at some point, that they should shoot me in the head, because I have too much time on my hands. But it turns out that I do have too much time on my hands, and would still prefer not to be shot. So update your records. Also, I've been spending the last few weeks trying to get used to my new mouse, which is not only my first optical mouse, but also designed by Masamune Shirow. True to it's Japanese origins, this little bastard is both smaller and faster (tracking, anyway) than the American product I had been using. Instead of just adjusting the mouse settings in Win XP, though, I decided to try to tame the mouse by sucking it up and adapting my mad mouse skillz to accommodate the new device. As it turns out, I have no mouse skills, mad or otherwise.

In other news, I've been taking some random photos and whatnot, which I'll probably post from time to time, but I'm also pleased to announce that I'm resurrecting the oft-delayed Detentionauts project. Meg and I are currently working on character development, in the form of making up questionnaire answers for the seven main characters. A few of you have written to me (and I'm sorry that my responses have been a little on the not side), telling me to get off my ass and make something, so that's what I mean to do.

04.01.03: ... I really think sopestilence
In addition to attempting to learn Japanese these days, I can't seem to get enough Blade of the Immortal and Cowboy Bebop. Not exactly obscure references here, but I can't deny how well crafted they both are; Enough to get me completely lost in the NYC subway system, even. And, with the Bebop movie a scant few days away, Meg and I have been re-watching the series for the third or fourth time, and I keep finding new things to marvel at. Anyway, maybe all this attempted immersion in another culture (albeit a particularly westernized flavor of it) is just a bi-product of my having a hard time being proud to be American these days.

I know that traditionally, this day is a day to pull all kinds of shenanigans and hilarity ensues, but I'll leave it up to the professionals this year, since I don't think I can find anything as universally funny as all the manga ever being licensed. So, instead, I'll just prod you towards a movie recommendation.

I've decided that, for the time being, I'm just going to update this thing using Notepad, instead of using one of those newfangled blogging tools that I've heard so much about. I just like the feeling of making myself hurt in order to be self-promoting and narcissistic. But my dream of having an entry where every word links to some relevant external site is officially dead until I stop using this method.

03.26.03: this time i mean it...pestilence
Okay, I've decided to make this site my web log, since it's got all the stuff that's important to me, art-wise. This may motivate me to update things and pick up where I left off over two years ago. I think it needs another re-design already, after I only put up this little non-functional index page last time. Ugh. Anyway, I may start looking into some of those blogging tools, but again, that'll take some time, and we'll see what gets in the way this time.

In the meantime, if you miss the old archives, or just want to see some old, poorly drawn comics that wear their Quentin Tarantino/Jhonen Vasquez influences proudly on their sleeves, here's the old vault.

As for new stuff, work has kept me from making anything in the last few years, except a couple t-shirt runs, some drawings for Meg, and an attempt or two to impress The Screen Savers' Morgan Webb.

01.03.01: happy new year...
well, I've pretty much missed my (self-imposed) deadline to have this site up and running on the first of the year, but I am working on it and, for a change, excited to be putting up new materials. I redesigned this site to be a much looser, more open-ended endeavor than the last version, so consider this the first step in a long work-in-progress. I should have much more in store in the coming days/weeks/etc...

stay tuned,
pestilence
